See your manual, you do not have to be +/- 50 miles.
Thats one way trip?
It is not very often that a DI dies at 12,000. Some have failec at around 18K.
If you have DI death in Eastern Kansas, I might be able to help.
I have not seen anything authorative about the DI being improved, perhaps someones wishful thinking. "No 9" posted
"DI cassette (that's a real killer) is «suppose» to have been improved in 03"
and
"Sorry I don't have that info. The reason I brought it up is that the parts manager noticed that it had changed from previous number when I changed DI in 2002. He said this COULD BE indicative that the part was modified but not a guarantee that it was."
Not something that is very substantial.
Model year 2000 improvements listed"
New ignition discharge module on B235
engine (LEV)
A new ignition discharge module is being
introduced on all cars with 2.3 liter engine (LEV)."
But that was the T7 intro and the T7 DI. The improvement was diven by fuel ecomony and emissions reasons. We know that this is the black T7 DI and its is less reliable. I could not find anything to suggest that it is more reliable as an improvement.
