Drove all three today- thoughts on the SE and Aero Posted by Ken [Email] (#2113) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ken) on Thu, 7 Jun 2001 00:21:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had my 99 2.3 LPT at the dealership today for the 20k service, and got a 2000 SE V6 loaner. I also went by the sales department and took an Aero for a spin for comparison.
When we were shopping for wagons last December, we drove the V6 and the lpt, and didn't notice enough of a difference to warrant the price increase. We bought the 2.3 lpt wagon to go with the sedan. I'm glad I didn't drive the Aero then, because my payment would be higher than it is now!
After driving all three in a row, I can truly say the base is "enough" engine for me. I have driven it all over Europe and California (military) and am getting ready to drive it across the US in a couple of weeks. I have never had a situation where I needed more power. I certainly love the power of the SE and the Aero, and want them, but don't need them. Saab truly does a great job of providing torque at low RPM for all engines, and that makes the difference. When it comes time to replace one of the current ones, I hope to replace it with an Aero, but for now I am very happy.
A question for Aero owners- the clutch on the Aero seemed very lightly sprung, while my clutch seems much tighter. Is that normal?
Also, if anyone is in the market for an Aero, B+B Saab still has three 2000 manual sedans for sale starting around $35k.
