I drove an S60R at Volvo's introduction event. Compared to the Aero, it is in another league in terms of performance. This is especially true at low speeds like the autoX course they had setup. Much less torque steer than the Saab and the suspension on the stiff setting was a better setup. Once your at highweay speeds, I think the R advantage dissapates. For fast long distance driving, the Saab would be a more comfortable way to go that is just as quick.
Note that I think the engine and suspension in the regular T-5 Volvo is quite defficient to the Aero. Also note that automatic Volvo R's use the same transmission as the Saab and is HP and TQ restricted in the first two gears. That means that the only time you will really experience the full 300 HP in an auto R in the US is in third gear.
