My 99, 9-5 has been horrible. I'm down to what I'm making my absolute last trip to the dealer. The car has been there about eight times in right at a year. Management has recently changed and I'm giving them a chance. It still took a call to Saab USA to get a serious response. The car came with the extended factory warranty and the next closest dealer is about 2300 miles away, over water.
Everything from the ACC going out twice, it idles like a diesel tractor (always has, I'm here today to print all the threads about how to fix it), the third brake light cover fell off w/o ever being touched, it has a wobble at highway speeds they can't seem to feel (although everyone of my friends has mentioned it some w/o me bringing it up and a friend of a friend I'd never met noticed it right off too, it's very obvious), the front wheel bearings needed to be replaced (both sides), the engine mounts cracked, the tranny mount has completely broken, the "wood" around the gear selector has cracked, the electric mirrors ratchet more than adjust, it has the paint cracks on the gutter above the C-pillar, and other minor annoyances. On the positive side, mileage has been good and at other than highway speeds the ride is good. The seats are great too. In fact, they are easily my favorite thing about the car.
From everything I've read and experienced, avoid a 1999, 9-5. Run away. Don't look back. I wish I'd read all the info on this board alone BEFORE buying the piece of junk. I'd have gone for an 02 or better. Mine is a 4 cyl, auto, that started my life with about 48K miles and now only has 57K. My 89, 5.0, convertible Mustang has been more reliable and has 88K miles.
