I had the tank baffle installed about 2 months ago - see my earlier posts for the whole story. It does _not_ significantly affect the capacity ....certainly not 1.5 gallons. More like a quart or two. The thud at 3/4 is about 90% gone, and I have seen no problems with the SID displays.
HOWEVER....recently I had the fuel gage get wierd (see that other post). I suspect that the transmitter float is hanging up on the baffle at very low (less than 1/8) fuel levels. The dealer is going to check this out next week and I will report what he finds (if anything.)
My recommendation is to hold off a little while, until I see if this is a design problem with the baffle, or merely an installation issue.
If you want to talk to your dealer, ask for the Baffle Kit to "fix the fuel tank thump". If he doesn't know what you are talking about he is an ignoramous. I think most or all the cars make this noise. It drove me crazy from the first time I heard it. The kit is free, but the tech will probably have to remove the exhaust system and the fuel tank to do it properly. Plan on about 3 hours at the shop.
