Engine knocking badly. Posted by Don [Email] (#1099) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Don) on Thu, 14 Jun 2001 21:43:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2.3 LPT 1999, Auto Tans. Car knocked last week when it was very hot. I asked my wife about gas and she assured me that she used premium. I refilled with 94 Octane Sunoco and it still knocks when leaving a stop light. I can only hear it at low speeds with the windows open, but it is knocking.
I will wait a few weeks now for the dealer. Glad this is a lease car. Next car is most likely a Passat 1.8t wagon. I rent those all the time travelling overseas and I cannot justify the nearly $12,000 price difference especially when my Saab dealer makes it almost impossible to get a loaner. Also, being forced to have that stupid ON-STAR crap built into my car is too much to handle. I just cannot deal with this nonsense.
BTW, I have compalined about the smoke from the exhaust since the car was nearly new. every time they tell me that they cannot reproduce it. Can you guess how mad that makes me? Also, the car needs a new shock in the rear. It hops sideways at about 50 mph when crossing bad expansion strips. Now, I have mentioned this for 1.5 years now, 5 times at the dealer when in for maintenance (which is not cheap by the way), every time the answer from the smart-a&$ kid is "cannot reproduce it here".
So, I give up. Next car will be a Passat or of I feel like spending some money I will get a 3 or 5 series. I know they are not that relaible either, but they are more fun to drive so why not?

I want to love Saab; this is my 3rd. I do business with them and love going to Sweden to visit them, but the dealers just plain suck here and Saab USA just insults my intelegence by limiting the options here and forcing us to buy crap like Sunroofs, On-Star and bad wood trim here.
