Is alignment required with +1 wheel and tire upgrade

Does anyone know what the general rule of thumb is on a re-alignment when upgrading wheel and tire packages?
Should I have my alignment rechecked after upgrading the standard 2001 Saab 9-5 SE 16" wheels and 215/55/16 tires to a set of Aero 17" wheels and Potenza SO3 225/45/17 tires?
I am finding that the wheel pulls slightly when braking if there are any imperfections in the road and the amount of force required to turn the wheel has increased. I wonder does the vehicle need more toe in? The vehicle is not pulling to the right or left on the highway. I have also noticed a slight vibration in the 60 mph and up range - if the balance is right on I assume the toe might be out of alignment. I am going to have the balance rechecked this week just to be sure, but wonder if it might be a good idea to spend the bucks on an alignment.
Any thoughts on the above?
Kevin
