Hi,
Do not believe everything aftermarket tuners say on their sites! Best with GT17 is 270bhp! GT17 is infact very small turbo, and I think the reliable max with it one can get is about 200bhp. (I've some experience tweaking 9000 (2.3CSE orig.LPT=170bhp, Trionic5), which gave after several mods (including TD04-18T, 3''-exhaust, race-cat etc.) 292bhp/422nm, and was quite fast one.)
9-5 LPT (at least yearmodels <2000) has different pistons, fuel injectors, fuel/exhaust valves etc. than AERO. TD04 gives also much better flow than GT17. GT17 life will be very short when we're speaking of 220+:bhp:s with it. Of course you can decrease the heat load by changing the exhaust system, but GT17 itself has it's own limitations!
Of course you can change the turbo (T28 for example), whole exhaust (incl. cat), intake pipe from airfilter to turbo, pistons, fuel injectors, valves etc. and get some real horsepower in the long run, but it's very expensive and difficult. Remember also, that trionic 7 is very difficult system to reprogram (even for saab itself). Standard program gives you reliability in the long run. Of course it's always compromise between different needs, but I think we use our 9-5:s in normal driving. One could also say that 9-5 LPT is not so slow than it feels!
Some fun (partially swedish):
http://www.speedparts.se (see 9-5 AERO EXTREME KIT: they promise 324bhp/470nm for price 65000SEK, kit includes new aluminium IC, new turbo (mitsu TD04-19T), new fuel injectors and a lot more. They offer also stage 4 for 9-5 LPT, which gives +116bhp/+168nm for your 9-5 LPT (-98,-99) for price 29000SEK (incl. work). Stage 4 includes new turbo (T28), new exhaust (3''-downpipe, race-cat, 2,5''-cat back), new pipe from airfilter to turbo, new airfilter and of course T7-software uppgrade.
http://www.maptun.com/projects.html (example from 9000, 2.3T, -98 project) with 366bhp/518nm!. There are also some dyno examples here.
http://www.chipcenter.cc/english/index.htm (9-5 LPT: stage 3: 245bhp with GT17!!, total price incl. work about 3000USD.)
with best regards,
