If I were the dealer wholesaling a car, and the car had the BBS wheels, I'd get them off _quick_ and throw the first 4 tires I could find around the dealership with matching models and rims on there. That way, I can get retail dollar throwing them on an Aero in the lot rather than peanuts at auction.
I hate to throw suspicion in there, but it fits the facts. Of course, so do alot of the other theories. Your dealer wouldn't know that, this would have been the dealer who shipped it to auction. 16" may have been all he could get together (maybe he threw them on an SE in the lot).
Does the certified come with the service history printout? That's way more valuable than CarFax (which doesn't know everything). Good luck!
