I don't understand this argument. First of all, most of the time I need more power (requiring downshift), I can anticipate it in advance and already have the car in a lower gear with a high RPM, where I can tap the power of the engine far more efficiently than I could with an automatic transmission.
In cases where I don't have time to anticipate (i.e. an emergency), I can rev the engine higher and slip the clutch as I shift, again with far more power to the front wheels than just jamming the gas to the floor in a slushbox.
Am I missing something here?
