I am interested in this problem in that I have smelled "oil" burning a few times, but generally only after a long time in stop and go city traffic.
Typically you need a fluid and something hot to get smoke, so we may have a tiny drip somewhere near a manifold. Then it has to get drawn up and into the air conditioning intake and be strong enough to go through the activated charcoal filter in the console.
My wife had a similar situation on a 1989 Acura Legend V6L. My mechanic scrubbed the engine down with shampoo, and then had us come in the next day, after we drove 50 miles or so. He was able to see the fresh leak, at the rear gasket cover above the crossover pipe. The same technique would probably help us.
Let me know by posting if you determine the cause.
Cheers,
