My guess is that the failure to start is caused by a faulty crankshaft sensor. In my 2000 9-5 I had exactly this problem. The car might start after a minute or 2 but sometimes it took 30 minutes. When finally it took so long I had to call someone (AA in UK) to help they found no fuel coming through but could not work out why. Then the car did start by itself and I took it to the garage where they found the problem. If the crankshaft sensor fails the ignition system does not realise the engine is turning so neither fuel nor sparking is triggered. The intermittent fault is due to the output signal from the sensor being weak rather than actual complete failure.
