1) yes.. no one questions that it does limit the max start volume...the question is does it "also" change the gain setting...
2) If it did cause the amp to run warmer, then that would imply that you did indeed actually change the gain setting with this change... Then again, if the gain is being altered and the recommended matching setting should be 24, then I would think the amp is designed to handle any temperature increase this brings about...
3)as to whether or not this does alter the gain setting.. the only way to tell is to play a disc or two containing some good low end and mid-bass passages at some fairly decent volume levels and compare the settings.. Better yet .. change the setting down to 1 and see if you lose any "punch"..
