Saab has never been at the level of popularity that Mercedes has, so when a parent company like GM gets ahold of it, they're taking a gamble. At which point they have a choice. Either stay with the classic, more expensive production of strictly Swedish Saabs and build from that, or begin adapting models/parts from less expensive GM companies. When Chrysler got ahold of Mercedes, they're dealing with a line of cars that has always had success with buyers willing to pay for the "premium" expenses. For this reason they can push the introduction of "supercars" with super prices. Unfortunately, GM has little room to gamble even further, based on demand, with the introduction of a very expensive M or AMG-class Saab. But the moment we see Mercedes marketing a new Hemi-powered SL, my theory is up in smoke.
