Gosh, I'm the person to ask here -- I was the first one to match a CellPort up with the Triad so make a Startac work.
You must use the amplified output. You can either just solder onto the speaker terminal leads (and you'll keep the Cellport speaker as well), or clip the speaker leads from the speaker terminals and tie them into the Saab system (through the Triad or in lieu of the OnStar). I don't have the voice activated version, but I see no reason it should be different.
The Cellport people told me that, in the future, they were going to building the amplification circuitry into the main unit, so this advice is only valid on the units where the speaker housing has an amplification circuit integrated into same with the speaker. Remove the four screws and look -- if there's a circuit board, you need to tap into the speaker output AFTER the circuit board.
