When the fuel guage reached about half a tank, it would drop to empty. The SID would follow it, in other words, eventually showing zero miles remaining. Filling the tank would return the guage to full, but it often took time to do so. The dealer replaced the fuel pump/sending unit using the access panel under the rear seat (warranty). Works fine now. It's the only significant problem we have had with the car in 18 months and 23,000 miles. The only danger would be in not knowing how much fuel you had in the tank, but as long as you reset the trip odometer when you fill up, you know you can go at least 400 miles on a tank, regardless of what the guage shows.
