Aero 2002, 26K miles. No problems so far.
Started on my way home (Boston to Westwood, MA) in heavy traffic. Gas guage was half full, as expected. About mid-way, began to notice drop in gas gauge needle, and over about 30 minutes the needle was at the very low mark...Initially I thought of a gas leak, and became very scared. However, after pulling to a gas station and filling the tank, the needle stayed at Empty and still is. Therefore, it seems the problem is within the sensing mechanism and/or computer. Here are my questions:
1. Is it safe to drive? There is a full tank, but will the computer shut off if it thinks there is no gas? I need to make a decision whether to take the car to work tomorrow.
2. Assuming the problem is in the gas sensing mechanism, do they have to remove the gas tank to fix this?
Thanks for any info or advice.
Regards
