I have checked with AT&T, and they do not have the Nokia 6160 phones. I have checked E bay, and no compatible phones. I have been to Verizon Wireless, and they do not have anything compatible. I have contacted Nokia, and yes, their web site shows a car kit with compatible phones. Only a few are compatible with AT&T and none are available any more. In addition, the 6160 phone uses "old" digital technology, which the cell phone world is getting away from, and expects to be rid of in a year or two. AT&T and Cingular are going to something called GSM, whatever that is. I am tired of fooling with this.
So, the solution here is forget about any easy built in replacement. What we are going to do is buy the latest Nokia blue tooth phone from Cingular, and get the ear phone piece (no wires needed) My wife is the primary driver of this car, and I may modify the phone holder to hold this phone, if my wife wants it. This way my wife can use her phone while she is driving, and take the phone with her when she leaves the car. The phone has voice activation capability so she doesn't even need to look at the phone while driving. I can't see spending a lot of money to try to cobble something into making the system work with old technology that will be gone soon anyhow.
Tomorrow evening we go to get the new phone.
