I still find that odd...in the last 3 cars and 2 motorcycles I have only had to replace 1 disk for being worn below limits. That one was on my K1200RS BMW. I have never had pulsating brakes from disk wear on my Audis, Saab, VWs, or BMWs. I did replace one other disk on my BMW K1200RS, but that was because the dealer dropped the wheel and bent the disk...now that one did pulsate.
If you run hard pads they will cause accelerated wear on the disks. But normal pads for the everyday driving that most of us do should not wear the disks out every brake pad change.
The Saab went 170,000 miles without a disk change. The VW has 158,000 on it now and the Audi Quattro has 138,000 on it.
