A 9-5 Aero has a generally good ride by any standard. Though not as plush as the standard car without the 17" wheels or the 10mm lower sport suspension, I've never had any objections from any of my customers about the Aero's ride, many of whom aren't aggessive, sporty drivers, but bought the car for the looks or the deal.
Previous Saabs had a solid rear axle as in the classic 900s or 9000s or the U-beam of the NG900s, neither of which is truly independent rear suspension. These types of older suspension had compliance issues. Lot's of suspension travel, but stiff over small bumps and this is exagerated by 17" wheels. 9-5s have a modern multilink truly independent rear suspension and a much stiffer chassis that gives even the Aero's sport chassis a decent ride with the shorter 17" sidewalls.
IMO an Aero rides better than any NG900. Even though the springs and shocks are stiffer, the actual ride is better.
An Aero rides firmer and has less body roll than a standard 9-5, but not by any definition does a 9-5 Aero ride "rough".
