My 2000 linear wagon with a manual transmission acts like it has a 200 lb flywheel. While accelerating through the gears (1-2, 2-3, etc) the engine revs increase by a few hundred RPM's as I let up on the throttle for each successive upshift (Normally revs would drop as the accelerator is eased to match engine-driveline RPM for each higher gear.) This makes for very slow and "unsporty" upshifting.
I realize that this is an engine management systems issue - do I call it a problem? - not the need to shave 100lbs off the flywheel. My mechanic says that it is programming designed to reduce emissions on the overrun. Could be, b ut I have never come upon another modern car that does this.
Any thoughts or experience with this out there? Or even a cure?
