Ah, this is a problem many of us have been dealing with--how to connect a satellite radio or iPod or whatever to our Saab stereos. The Saab stereos, imo, give great audio quality. I'd like to take advantage of that great audio quality.
Now, there are a few ways you can play audio through your stereo from another device. You already know about 2 of them (wireless FM transmitter and tape adaptor).
There is also a direct connect FM transmitter. Cleaner solution than tape, you won't have the interference issues you might have with a wireless FM transmitter, however, the audio quality will still be degraded.
A direct connection via a mini plug. Much better audio quality, maybe a wire showing (or not, depending on where the plug is). The problem is, we don't have this option with our Saabs.
A connection via the CD changer connection. Clear audio quality (depending on source). Not an option on Saab stereos.
Installing a 3rd party stereo. You can get a stereo which has satellite radio built-in or mini-plug connectors or many other things. Problem is, you'll lose functionality in your Saab on the computer. Also, you'll be hard-pressed (IMO) to find a stereo which sounds as good as the Saab without spending a LOT of money.
Monster cable has released the iCruze for select vehicles. It allows you to connect an iPod to a car stereo and control it via the steering wheel/stereo controls. They also have an LCD which displays track info and other info. Unfortunately, it's for iPod only and it's not available for Saabs.
In short, there aren't many good options for us Saab owners...
