Opinions on how to deal with my stupid mistake please...

I replaced the headgasket about three months ago but managed to break off an exhaust manifold stud in the process. Unfortunately, I cut corners and put the manifold back on the head with one less stud, leaving the sheared off stud in the head. Last night the gasket between the manifold and head began to start leaaking.
Because I can't get at the stud with the head in situ (the stud is the one nearest the firewall), I think I will have to remove the head to get to it. Of course, the stud sheared off level with the head and will need to be drilled out.
Should I remove the head and get the stud removed professionally or does anyone know of any way of dealing with this problem without removing the head?
Thanks,
Tomee
