Butch is right - you need to look at the repair history and, if you do buy it, have it serviced only by a mechanic who specializes in Saabs (avoid dealers, who'll rob you).
More importantly, however, you need to look at your priorities for a car, which from your post seem to put reliability high on the list. In this case, I would not buy the Saab. Though they are very well built and can last for years (I had one w/337,000 miles on it, and the next owner drove it for 2 more years before she sold it), they require attentive upkeep and are not going to be as reliable as a Honda/Toyota. Unless you work on the car yourself, you'll find that the cost to repair them is high.
Having said that, they *are* great looking cars, fun to drive (I recommend the manual transmission over the auto.), practical (the hatchbacks), and safe.
Lastly, you'll get great feedback here on this site, but also remember that you're asking a group - who are generally religious about Saabs - if their religion is a good one. :-) Also go to cars.com, then the CarTalk section and look for their survey stuff.
good luck...
