But the term masochist implies that we actually enjoy the pain.
A few days ago, I discovered that an aquaintance of mine was another SAAB guy who did his own maintanence. We had a really funny conversation about R&Ring alternators and the "lateral thinking" involved.

Everyone who has ever attempted to remove one without support or documentation (thank god {or the deity of your choice} for saabnet!) knows about the infamous #@%^$!!!! bolt/firewall conflict. My "solution" at the time was to hacksaw the bolt in half, and replace it's replacement in the opposite orientation. His "solution" was to hammer a hole in the firewall. On his test drive following reassembly, the displaced firewall caused the accelerator to get stuck in the depressed position.

It's MUCH funnier after the fact, when you're sitting around telling "war stories" over a few beers...

We should all be proud of the fact that we were able to accomplish the task we set out to do- even if it took a little more time, sweat, and cursing.

Masochist? Maybe. Determined? Absolutely.
