The fuel pump pressurizes the system to about 60 psi. When you shut the car off, a check valve closes to keep the pressure up - it helps with hot restarts. If the check valve is leaky, the pressure drops and the car will be hard to restart.

I don't buy needing to check the injectors or fuel distributor. I assume you have an older CIS car if you've got a fuel distributor - what year is it (MANY different injections systems during the year). Yes, leaky fuel injectors could bleed the system down, but you'd notice that in lousy gas mileage and very rich running.

Again, what kind of fuel injection do you have? I've seen hot restart problems with CIS, and they're different from hot restart problems in the LH systems. Frankly, since the engine does at least start, AND can be kept alive by means of the throttle, I don't buy the story of low residual fuel pressure. Pressing the pedal does not add gas - pressing the pedal adds AIR. The engine control computer measures the air and decides to add gas. If your residual pressure were low, you'd have minimal fuel, and adding air won't keep the engine alive.

With an LH system, I'd start looking at the AIC valve or possibly even the engine temperature sensor (NTC).
