Well I'm not going to endanger myself by commenting on the wife aspect ;^), but I think you're confused about one thing.
The pinion bearing is not part of the clutch, it's part of the transmision. In order to replace it, you're talking a transmission rebuild. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing - at 150K on a turbo, it's probably needed. But the full-boat clutch and transmission rebuild dealie is probably going to be in the $2500 range.
As far as actual clutch upgrades, a lightened flywheel adds a lot of fun to the car. But things like kevlar plates are not really needed unless you're doing serious engine upgrades - the stock stuff works fine. Can't speak from personal experience, but my understanding is that racing clutches tend to grab and chatter a lot - ok for racing where the clutch is basically an "on-off" thing, but not the smoothest driving in traffic.
