From the crankshaft drawings showing the reduced cross-section where the "siamesed" rod journals are offset by 15 degrees or so, I can see why they're having some failures on the W8 engines. GM had some problems with offset journals like that in their early 90 degree V-6 engines.
It'll be interseting to see how they progress on these engines over the years.
You could make some seriously short 4 or 5 cylinder engines with that design.
