Wiring fuel pump questions, car is stranded

If anyone could help me with this soon, I would really appreciate it. My car is stuck at the movie theater. I had to get a ride home. The engine turns over but doesnt start. I unbolted the "in" fuel line from the plenum and tried to start the car, and no gas comes out.
I checked all the fuses.
Then I tried starting it with the voltmeter hooked up to the terminals on the fuel pump, and it showed no voltage at all reaching the pump.
What I'm wondering is, just to get it home (about 4 miles away), could I wire the pump up manually with two really long wires? I have a positive wire fed into the passenger compartment already that I use for my manual fan switch and fog lights, could I just extend that back over the rear seat to the pump? I guess what Im wondering is is the fuel pump 12 volts, I dont want to burn it out or anything.
Thanks in advance,
Rob
