I tried to hook a wire up straight from the battery to the fuel pump, but the wire was not thick enough to carry the needed current. I ended up going back home again and getting the battery out of my dads van, and jumper cables, and plopping the huge battery down in the trunk next to the pump, then hooking the jumper cables up to the pump. Worked great! I am seriously considering carrying a spare battery in the car. I thought that the wiring must be faulty between the fuse, but you say there is a relay that might be bad? I will have to check for that. At least my fuel pump isnt dead (yet). Knock on wood...
