sudden loss of brake pedal/turbo boost problem

Just bought a 85 turbo and had my mechanic check it out to check a turbo boost problem and and it now works intermittently ie: it will boost into mid yellow most of the time and occasionally (usually when cold) bump into the lower red range. Boost seems to be more efficient in lower gears
1-2&3 any suggestions as to how to remedy by process of elimination?
Also had him check the brakes because they seemed to stick slightly when first starting but the pedal has been rock hard...he said brakes were ok... but today after driving it in a lot of stop & go Friday traffic I parked the car and later found a slack pedal when I hit the brakes and very little pad contact as it hit the floor....pumping does not help, fluid level is fine no visible fluid leak anywhere in the system and vacuum hoses seem to be ok into assist resevior and manifold...car has 122k miles and sat for some time before I got it with a blown water pump.
Why do thse things happen on a weekend or a holiday? This is my 3rd Saab and they never break on Tuesday.
Any input greatly appreciated!
