oh man, what a day....
my car sat in the drive way for one week ending today, I was out of town. Then this morning i went out to my car and started it. In the mornings i let it run for 5 min to get it up to temprature, this is because i make a left turn out of my subdivision accross 4 lanes and up a hill with two blind spots and cars that travel ~60 despite a 45mph speed limit. I warm it up as to not cause damage using such large throttle openings when the engine is cold.

ok so im sitting in traffic at a stop light listining to my NEW mp3 headunit. next i catch the check engine light illuminate, one second later the engine rpm fell to ZERO. I was like "uh oh". I tried to restart it but it just cranked and cranked. a quick scan of the guages revealed thati hade a little less than 1/4th tank, and normal coolant temps. no attempt to start on behalf of the engine. I blocked traffic untill the cops came and moved people away from me so i could roll into the shoulder. I got towed back to my house on a AAA flatbed(they broke the shit outa my hella 550 driving lamps, but the guy gave me $70 cash as settlement.) when i got it home i didnt have time to mess with it cause my dad wanted me to help him at work since im outa school for the summer. I got home arround 6:00 and i went out to mess with the car. I determined i had no spark at the plugs or at the coil. I verified 12V to the coil. so i tested the resistance of my coil against the #'s in my bently. From what i could tell i had infinate resistance from the negitive post to the center coil to distributer pole. I eventually learned this wasnt really the case because i had my multimeter on the wrong ohm scale. Anyways i didnt learn this untill after i bought a new coil at the autoparts store. out of curiousity i tried to start my car before i put the new coil in and it started perfectly!!!! i had done no repair to anything and it ran fine. So i went for a ride and it drove perfect, i made a right outa my subdivision and drove about 100yards down the road before i lost all power, i shifted to neutral and the engine died. I was totaly upset. So i called my dad to come get me and he brought the new coil and we put it in. i cranked the engine and it started, climbed to 1300 rpm and then shut off. We were puzzled. then we got 3 gallons of gas and poured it in incase the guage was broken. after that we could start the engine and it would sputter and run rapidly fluctuating between 100rpm and 1300 rpm. throttle seemingly had no effect, after about 5-10 seconds of that, the engine would stall. After this my dad just towed me home and my 900 sits in the drive way with i confused owner.

I need to know what the problem is so i can fix it, i have a trip to make middle of next week...
what do you think?

All ideas appreciated.
