I checked the fuse, it's good. I have no reason to suspect that A/C would coincidentally die, though I suppose it's possible. According to Bentley:
In '88, pin 16 of the ECU goes to pin 16 of the A/C relay, while pin 12 goes to the throttle angle transmitter and "tk" on the A/C relay. Pin 14 goes directly over to the compressor.
In '89/'90, pin 14 of the ECU goes to pin 16 of A/C relay, while pin 3 goes to throttle angle transmitter and "tk" on the A/C relay. No direct connection to the compressor as in '88.
This seems like pretty compelling evidence. The pin number changes bother me. As Saabman says, this sounds dangerous. Bentley also mentions that ECU controls the "shift up" light on '89 and later, so that makes sense.
I can't find anything in wiring diagrams to suggest that a '90 ECU would cause any problems. Fault codes should be the same, at least according to Bentley.
