OK, OK, I know this is a Classic Saab site and believe me I have learned a lot about my 1987 900TC from the folks here and that is why I'm looking for an answer to a problem on my wife's Audi A4 (she doesn't like my NG Saab in the winters here!?). I digress.

We had the front upper links and tie rod ends replaced last week. When we got the car back my wife found that the ABS would engage between 22 to 18 20 kph when slowing down. We asked the tech who did the suspension job and he said that it is probably a 'split' ABS sensor ring that now has a larger gap between 2 of the teeth - evidently this is not uncommon as corrosion builds up between the toothed gear and the hub it is pressed onto. I am just curious that this happened at the same time as the front suspension was worked on - any cause and effect??? There are no Audi sites like this one (if you know of one please, please let me know) and before I spend $C400 for a new part and installation I would like to be sure that this really is the cause. Past experience has shown that pulling the wheels will not give me visual access to the ABS rings to check for a split on one of them. So, my question, why would ABS only engage at very low speeds if the ring was the cause, why wouldn't it affect the ABS at all breaking speeds? Is there any other potential cause that you have discovered?? Thanks for putting up with this about an Audi but I use the experts when I need to and this time I need to.
