If it felt hard to insert and turn the key suddenly, you should suspect sabotage. Take a strong light and peek into the key slot holding the metal flap open with a wire [paperclip should do]. You might be able to see the obstruction [if any]. The other door/trunk locks will be totally OK or had similar 'treatment.' I was once a victim of a labor union strike 'action.' Somebody inserted a matchstick in both door locks. I felt resistance on the first insertion, but worked afterwards, so ignored it. I had reason to use the key on the other side, didn't work and confirmed in my mind what had happened. Took inside door panel off, pulled back the moisture barrier, unhooked the link, removed the c-clip and pulled the key cylinder. I dug out the pieces of the matchstick and gave the evidence to the plant security. The lock worked fine afterwards [of course].
If you or someone did the same procedure, you should be able to see why the key is hanging. Shouldn't take a locksmith.
