B-series motors may be cool, but they are a PITA. The jackshaft-driven waterpump and alternator are simply poor designs. They are loud and mechanically inferior to belt-driven designs (more parasitic loss). The water pump is frighteningly difficult to change - you have to remove the intake manifold (PITA, need a new gasket), and a slip of the wrong part means you're rebuilding your engine. Same goes for the timing chain - let it slip when replacing the head and you're pulling the motor out. Putting the starter under the exhaust manifold is simply brilliant - it's difficult to access, but on a B20T you'll get good at it since you'll smoke it every few years anyway. Same goes for the A/C compressor - putting it between the block and the exhaust manifold is a stroke of genious. Put the cooling part between the two hottest things under the hood. Nice! It's pretty cool having only one belt (who needs p/s or a/c?) but is it worth it? I sure as heck don't think so.
