I had Nokian Hakka 1's for ~4 winters, commuting 200mi in northern WI, and they were incredible in deep snow. The trade off is skittish at freeway speeds ~70mph, and definitely don't fly into a corner/intersection too fast :p. Also rather loud at freeway speeds. Note that the replacement for the new gen Hakka 1 is designed to improve on those shortcomings, but I havne't tried them yet.
When moved to 'big city' & it's traffic, tried Blizzake WS-50's. These are a very nice compromise vs. Hakka 1's: very competent in snow (but no Hakkas), better in standing water, quieter, much more steady at speed, and remarkable grip on icy city streets.
Summary: Severe rural winters/Highway commuter - advantage Hakka; City commuter - advantage Blizzak WS-50.
