does this make more sense? Warped or leaky, one thing or the other isn't right.
Lets see; it's probably easier to imagine what's going on & then you decide which fits better... You know how a clutch works, right? When you press the pedal to disengage it, you're pulling the pressure plate away from the flywheel. This releases the clutch disk which was clamped tightly in between.
Case 1 - worn-out disk.
The clutch disk is too thin. The clutch engages higher & higher, till there's no more pedal travel. Even with your foot off of the clutch pedal, the clutch disk is not tightly clamped between the pressure plate & flywheel. Then when you romp on the gas pedal, the clutch disk can slip. You'll see your tach rising without your speedometer.
Case 2 - warped disk.
It should begin to drag very early (close to the floor), maybe it won't ever disengage completely. This would really aggrivate the crunching reverse problem. The clutch BEGINS to drag at a very low pedal position. But the point where its COMPLETELY engaged is normal. You've got more than one C900 for comparison, right? Sometimes this makes a nasty shuddering when you engage, but I guess it doesn't have to do that.
Case 3 - master cylinder leak-down.
When you hold the clutch disengaged for a long while, it (very slowly) starts to engage. Without you moving the pedal. Maybe you need a really long stoplight for it to get far enough to notice. The piston seal in the master cylinder leaks just a bit, maybe not all the time. If you put it in neutral & pump the clutch pedal it will go back to where it belongs, till next time.
I think case 3 is the one that can happen intermittently. I imagine if the disk were warped, it would still be warped every time.
