Just did the pass. side inner driver to fix vibration under load in the mountains. Vibration was typical for an inner, but didn't show up under normal acceleration in the flatlands, just in the hills of West Virginia when climbing at about 80 mph.
So: pulled everything, the inner driver housing actually came out on it's own w/o pulling/beating/swearing, etc. Tapped the driver out of the bearing, pulled bearing, etc. Reassembly was normal, everything back together. Only 2 leisurely hours....
BUT, taking a good look at the old parts there was a bit of a suprise: The bearing actually rattled when shaken, the radial play of the inner sleave releative to the outer was .093 inches! There was also some galling on the inner surface of the bearing, AND on the area of the driver that's in contact with the bearing sleave. The driver was moving around in the bearing! Wear in the driver cup was quite bad also. I measured a depression of .033 to .041 in. at the spots the tripod bearings contact the drive surfaces of the driver. An additional note; at 140K miles this car has never been run with a torn boot or missing grease.

Moral of the story: if you take it apart to fix a vibration problem plan on replacing everything. Don't assume you can get away with the trick of swapping the drivers side to side. I have done that in the past myself on other SAABs, but you can't plan on it.

I think I'll do the other side next week...
