I installed a 4" Kenwood Component Speaker with the dome tweater in the "Stock" locations in the Speaker Panels on the dash. While I'm pleased with the look. I feel the Tweeter sound coming off the windshield is too much. Stick with the component speakers, but mount the tweaters to the carpeting in the "Kick-panel" location. I also went with a 4 x 85 Watt Amp mounted in the well under the Trunk's floor board (Strongly recommended. My Amp came with built in cross-over capability).
I like Jeff's recommendation with the compact Subwoofer inside the center console (it's a tight fit), but I opted for a Pioneer TSA1767 3-way speaker in the stock locations in the back seat in lieu of a separate subwoofer. I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of bass they put out, which is plenty for me.
I've got a Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD/Receiver mounted in the DIN Slot in the center console. I started with it in the stock radio location but there was too much glare on the LED face to read anything. I use the Blaupunkt Thummer unit on the steering wheel for most of my radio tuning/adjustments.
Lastly, I installed an FM-modulated 6-disc Clarion CD Changer (had it from before)mounted to the underside of the Drivers seat (see pic), facing forward, in such a way as to not interfere with the seat adjustment levers. Obviously, a CD Changer compatible with the head unit controls would be preferable. I've got a Ford Taurus Coin/Cup Holder in the Stock radio DIN slot.
Overall, I'm very pleased with my setup, with the exception of the tweeter location. I'll pick up some used speaker dash panels from the junk yard later this Winter, and move the tweeters to the kick panel locations as a suggested. Also, the mounting angle of the Head Unit in the console is a little out of the recommended range, so it's more prone to skip while playing a CD when hitting a bump or pot hole.
