pour yourself a glass of your favorite, click on the link below, and read the thread. i think the saab community will find this one interesting. of particular note is Saabnet owner Scott Paterson's comment:

saab headgaskets "seem to fail" only if you read the archives of a site dedicated to repair. for every one saab owner who posts here, hundreds more do not.

saabnet and the internet are certainly valuable, and comments like Scott's (admittedly anecdotal) are telling. however, you cannot reliably derive failure patterns from a website frequented by a tiny sliver of a total population whose purpose for posting is not to report a lack of problems but to seek advice on solving them.

PS SAAB OEM gaskets are made by Elring, a respected supplier with a reputation for quality. Except they do also supply some lousy car companies such as Mercedes Benz, who have a long history of reliability right up there with Yugo, so who knows...
