how to check and why

There seems to be a bit of confusion on how to check the HB, so I'm just going to try to add to it.
IF YOU HAVE AC: check by making a line across all the pullys. The outside pully for the a/c is bolted directly to the crackshft, and it's location is not affected by hb slippage. All the rest of the pullys are part of the hb outer rim, tied to the center of the pully by a ring of rubber. They will slip if the hb is bad. If you have ac, marking the face of the outer pully WON'T tell you if things are slipping because you're only marking the a/c pully, which is not part of the HB.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE AC: Then you must mark the face of the pully. Marking across the pully won't tell you anything, because all the pullys are part of the hb outer ring, so all will slip together.
