I don't think it's corrosive per se out in the open, if that's what you mean (eating away on you engine block from the outside). All coolant though will dull the engine paint over time.
Personally, I wouldn't "convert" a car to DexCool until I have more info on the Coolant and it's lifespan.
The one very big reason to use DexCool have been their statement that it last 5 years and 150K miles.
The one very big controversy that needs to be solved, is the test and roumors that show DexCool attacking certain plastic parts in coolant systems after more than two years of use, and therefore needs to be changed every two years.
If that's the case, regular coolant is preferred because the benefit of DexCool is gone.
We are almost certain that GM is not going to admit that something is wrong, and therefore we have to follow grassroot investigation in the matter.
Any time you change coolant (even with the regular brand) you end up with tiny leaks here and there. This is because the old coolant have a lot of particles that clogg up wherever it gets a chance.
New batch of coolant have a cleaning effect and it will slowly remove some of the easy debris that is sitting here and there. And it will start to seep from coolant hoses and a like.
After what I understand, DexCool have even better cleaning effect.
The draw back can be that if you have a very marginal radiator that might be paper thin at a couple of spots. The new batch of coolant will most likely push it over the edge and it will start to leak.
This happens for us sometimes, and it's very difficult to explain to the customer why they need a new radiator or W-pump 2 weeks after they had the car for a major service.
Sure, they would have needed one sooner or later, but we helped it over the edge, so to speak.
