All the responses so far make sense to me. But, to go a bit further, you might want to call Rod Beckner, indie Saab mechanic in Jefferson, Oregon. 541-327-1133. Explain the situation to him and see what he thinks. He rebuilt my tranny and plenty of others, so he may have some other ideas for you as to what the problem could be. Even if you have damaged the tranny, which I don't think you have, I think at worst you'd have to get the synchros replaced, which is a lot less than an entire overhaul.

Hang in there, man. It won't be as bad as you fear...things rarely are. We're all pulling for you.
