only advantage is not leaking when flying inverted. They require a slightly higher charging voltage (about .25 volts higher)for longer life. The ones I have used do not seem to last as long as the lead acid batteries and loose more capacity in below freezing temperatures. I have switched to the recombined gas type battery in my personal airplane. It also doesn't leak when inverted and is now 4 years old but is now losing capacity and will need to be replaced soon. The main reason for my useing either of these type of batteries is to have less corrosive gases in an aluminum airplane. If this was not a consideration I would recommend a regular lead acid battery with a closed battery box that is vented to the outside.
