Well, recently when driving around, my compressor (not even in use) started making some terrible bearing crushing sounds... so i think that the compressor is dead. Plus, last summer, it did work for a while with some fake r12, but then there was a leak somewhere, possibly more than one leak and that was that. I think i know where a leak was, but i dont know if there are any more. I was thinking about just trying to get a decently priced rebuilt compressor (is it even worth having my own one rebuilt?) and a new manifold/hose assembly. Please let me know what other parts should be replaced at this point.
Is it worth buying a rebuilt compressor from ebay?
That's a lot cheaper than what the rebuilt units are going for from eEuroparts.
Lets say i decide to just go ahead and get a compressor and a new hose assembly. I could get all of that for under $200 it seems. Then, what else would i potentially have to replace to be safe? I suppose i would have to get an o-ring kit. Do expansion valves have to be replaced?
Basically, I'm just wondering what usually needs to be replaced and then perhaps i could get the system professionally charged.
Finally, what's the benefit of going to R134a over the fake r12 stuff?
Thanks everyone!
