brake caliper anti-squeal goop question

Greetings.
I have a question about placement of the anti-squeal goop on front brake caliper. The center of the brake caliper piston presses against the back of the inboard pad. This pistion is the one that has the 4 recessed holes we use to rotate the disc and press it inward. Does this piston rotate as the brake pad wears and the piston travels further outward? If so, does the antisqueal goop inhibit its rotation and impair function? Or can I smear the goop freely without worries of impairing brake adjustment and function?
Thanks.
