No, its not a total of 2400 watts! ;) Many amp manufacturers notate this way (it says 600x4 on the box), you always have to think a little harder to figure out exactly how much power they are quoting, sorry for the misleading figure. 600 watts is the max rms power they can claim given the bridging figure for both front and rear channels. I have the test data sheet from my particular specimen that shows a total rms power of 630.xx watts, 319.xx from the rear channels, 310.xx from the fronts. In other words, one needs both front and rear channels bridged (separately) to actually get over 600 watts, and thats at 14.4 volts. I do not have specs for 12V but I assume that it is considerably less. What makes up some of this difference is the 4.8V pre-outs on the head unit. My previous HU only had 2.4V pre-outs IIRC. Either way, its enough to send the Quarts into "tweeter protection" mode where the crossover shuts off the tweeter if X power limit is exceeded- and oh, the clarity!
Right now, each front channel is run to 4ohms, while the rears are bridged to a sub @ 4ohms. Doubt it would be stabile at less than 2.
I think I have to send you to eBay :o(, there's just too much going on here right now, but I'll find you if can manage to pull some strings in the near future.
Everyone has JL for a reason, but I understand completely. Everyone has Toyotas for a reason too. Infinity has never let me down, I've always been more than impressed with all of their products I have owned. I think Polk/MOMO is worth waiting on, IMHO their reputation is due mostly to their name at this point.
I would be curious to hear a C900 with proper kicks. I converted my forward center console into an enclosure for the Quart 6s, firing into the footwells on each side. The sound is very full, but not as encompassing as good kicks I've heard in other cars, for obvious reasons.
Have fun building your system, keep us audio geeks posted. Hopefully I'm almost done with mine, but then there are those hard-drive HUs with 20gigs, and I suppose I could use some good 4x10s for the rear- no, 6x9s would sound better, and then comes the sound deadening, perhaps a cd changer would be useful................................. etc.
