I have owned 3 SPG's...1985, 1986, &a 1988, all great cars, I sold my '86 to my brother last year, and I'm buying it back in a few weeks! haha. All of mine have quite a bit of miles...'85=305K, '86=174K, '88=169K...all run strong, have original engines, the '88 had a tranny rebuild. (Funny, the '85 SPG's trans. works good and is orginal) So they do last a very long time if taken care of well.

There is an excellent article about restoring SPG's in the FAQ section, it's an in depth look into restroing a 1986 SPG by a guy Named Clifford Quan, it's good stuff! I printed it out when I first got an SPG, and got some good info from it (part numbers, great tips, etc.)

You can purchase gray carpeting from a place like Autozone, or VIP for pretty cheap, or have it done at a shop, doing it yourself wouldn't be all that hard, just time consuming.

As for your dash, there are plastic covers made and when installed, it looks brand new and you'd never know that it has a cover on it, swedish auto specialties (http://www.sasab.com) has them.

What does your car have for mileage? Hows the body? (Really check out wheel well/floor areas), transmission? Head gasket? turbocharger? engine seals? You need to really love these old Saabs to own one, they have there quirks! But there an awesome car to own, and very fun to drive, I have invested thousands into my 1985 &'88 SPG's, but I dont regret it one bit, sure I could own a new car by now..but that doesnt matter to me, I love my SPG's, and thats why I'm buying back my old '86 soon!

Goodluck with your project! Keep us updated!
