Here is a photo of what Randy was talking about (dirty airflow meter plate). I'll follow this with a photo of a clean plate. I cleaned mine using Acetone from the local auto parts store. Like Randy said, don't push DOWN on the plate. I picked up the plate by using pliers to grip the bolt and lift it straight up, just enough to slide a finger or two under plate and support it for some vigorous rubbing.
Be careful, though, the plate only travels upwards about 3/4" to 1-inch, so don't pull up more than the "stop" you encounter.
